Our Team

Ian started working at the Fina Station in Portsmouth Village (Currently Tim Horton’s on King Street) in 1972 while taking Mechanical Engineering at St. Lawrence College. He completed his apprenticeship there and became a Licensed Technician in 1977. He took over the business in 1979 and the next few years brought changes to Petro-Fina and Petro-Canada at the gas station. In 1983 Ian took the risk to move the business to the far West-end of the growing city and set up Ian Carmichael’s Auto Service on Princess Street at Bayridge Drive (currently George’s beside Kingston Kia). As the city was slowly expanding westward, Ian Carmichael’s Auto Service made the final move to its current location in 1986, where it has grown from its original 2 bays. Ian still works half-days (7am to 7pm) and his vast knowledge and experience are applied daily in the oversight of a 5-bay professional service and repair facility with 4 other licensed technicians and 3 office staff.

Brent is the Service Bay Manager and has been taking stuff apart since his early days, whether it be his own or his brother’s toys. He’s gotten much better at putting things back together over the years. After receiving a Diploma in Civil Engineering from St. Lawrence College he returned to the business in 2003, built the office and then began his apprenticeship. Now a fully licensed technician for over 10 years, he excels in difficult vehicle diagnostics and handles many repairs on luxury and import vehicles.

Ryan joined the business in 2004 after receiving a degree in Economics from The University of Western Ontario. Initially handling bookkeeping, customer service, service advisor and service writer roles, the growth of the business and expansion from 3 to 5 repair bays have changed his role to general management and service operations.

Mom came into the business since retiring from being an X-ray Technologist at Hotel Dieu Hospital. She now handles bookkeeping duties and helps run the office.

Matthew joined Ian Carmichael’s Auto Service in 2008 as an apprentice from Kingston Honda. He became a fully licensed technician in 2009.
